Choosing a computer for college?

Looking at a computer for college. Opions are 1: MacBook pro 15″ (the more powerful model). 2: alienware m14x upgraded to comparable specs as the MacBook pro. 3: a Mac mini with a few things upgraded so it’s about 1000 plus a 32 gb ipad 2. Option 2 and 3 are about $1700 but option 1 is over $2000 even with educational pricing. I will be using it for adobe illustrator/photoshop and maybe a few games like starcraft 2. I dont know how well the Mac mini would run those things and it’s not as portable. Also I’m wondering why most of the graphic arts world uses apple computers instead of pcs.

Macbook Pros are awesome machines… there is much more to a machine than the main listed “specs” … the whole design… screen, trackpad… they are just fantastic.

I wouldn’t go for a Mini right now.. its been too long since they were updated. Apple doesn’t change their prices, no matter how long they’ve been selling a model, so if it hasn’t been updated in a year, its still a year old price.
