What Ipod Should I Buy? A Shopping Guide
In 2001 the iPod, a media player that was to change the face of the portable audio player landscape was designed, marketed and launched by Apple. Nine years later, I decided to look into buying an iPod that I could call my own. The web-based road to finding the perfect iPod has many twists and turns and there were endless questions to be asked and answers to be collected. Firstly – what exactly was I looking for? Secondly, what kind of budget did I have? Lastly, how cool do I want to look?
The iPod Touch
The iPod Touch was launched in 2007 and the 2nd generation iPod Touch was launched in 2008. The 2nd generation iPod touch weighs in at just 115 grams and is a slim rectangular shape with a glass touch screen display. All iPod Touch models include applications such as Videos, Music, Photos, iTunes, Safari, YouTube, Calendar, Clock, Contacts, Calculator and Settings.
The iPod Touch has a relatively high price tag, however it has many additional features that the other iPod models do not have. For example, Google Maps is a fantastic application that can be added to the iPod Touch and cannot be added to other iPods.

The iPod Classic
There have been six generations of the iPod Classic since 2001. The sixth generation iPod featured a slightly thinner body, improved battery life and claimed up to 40 hours of music playback and 7 hours of video playback.
This latest iPod was the first iPod to not have a white colour option – this was replaced with a silver colour option and is available in 80gb and 160gb with a new interface and anodized aluminium front plate. The Genius feature is an extra addition, whereby the iPod can automatically generate a playlist of songs from your music library which are similar to the song you selected.

The iPod Nano
The iPod Nano has gone through five models since its introduction in late 2005. The fifth generation (2009) has features such as video recording, microphone for voice memos, FM Radio, a pedometer and a larger screen than the generation before.
What makes the Nano slightly different to the other iPods available are the colour options. There are nine finishes to choose from: Silver, Black, Blue, Purple, Yellow, Red, Green, Pink and Orange. The screen, as mentioned before is slightly larger at 2.2 inches diagonally. It uses flash memory, just like the iPod Shuffle and uses a ‘click wheel’ that can be found on the iPod Classic.

The iPod Shuffle
The iPod Shuffle is the smallest model of iPod and was launched in 2005. The current model – the third generation was launched in 2009 and weighs just 10.7 grams or 0.38 oz. Availble in silver or black, it features VoiceOver technology which will tell you the name of each song, artist, album and playlist contents in 20 different languages using a Text-to-Speech technology.
Before you worry that you can only have one playlist – don’t -ou can now have multiple playlists! It features a steel attachment clip which makes it ideal to attach to your clothes, making it useful to run with, if you were that were inclined.
