The iPhone 4 from Verizon offers iPhone customers another network that they can use. With an improved data plan, Verizon customers will benefit from the iPhone coming to their network.
While the iPhone 4 for Verizon is not the next generation Apple device, there are some noticeable differences with this product. The most notable differences are going to be the Verizon iPhone 4 accessories, the Verizon iPhone 4 chargers and the Verizon iPhone 4 case. Verizon has offered users different kind of accessories to make their iPhone experience a tad bit different from the older one. Other than the things that can be bought for the Verizon iPhone, some of the more technical differences are the data plans that are offered and the coverage that comes with those plans.
Let’s talk about the coverage first. Verizon has not offered iPhone users the option to use their 4G network but they must use the original 3G network. The price of the iPhone 4 is the same no matter what network the user chooses. With a two year contract, the 16 GB version is $200 while the 32 GB version is $300. The voice plans are also identical regardless of the network. For $40 per month a customer will get 450 minutes on both networks while for $30 more, the customer will get unlimited minutes.
As for the Data plans, that is where there will be a significant difference. For Verizon customers, $30 per month will get them unlimited data usage. For people that choose not to use Verizon, they will pay $15 for 200 Mb, $25 for 2 GB and $45 for 4 GB. There is no option for them to have an unlimited data usage. Tethering will cost an extra $20 though, for a 2GB limit.
Something unique to the Verizon network is that customers that buy the iPhone 4 can use their phone as a Wi-Fi Hotspot. With this option, up to five devices that have wireless capabilities can share the internet with the iPhone. For people that are on a long car ride and want access to the internet, all they have to do is have a Verizon iPhone and then they can connect laptops and gaming devices to the internet. Another deciding factor for a person to choose Verizon as their phone carrier is the speed of the network. Before the iPhone was available on the Verizon network, iPhone users complained of very slow speeds and many believed that this would not be the case with Verizon. Once Verizon announced that it would begin selling the iPhone, many people were skeptical of the increased performance that was promised. When the Verizon iPhone is compared to the other iPhone 4, the speed difference is noticeable but not in a good way. The Verizon network actually produced slower speeds but they were not significant enough to be detrimental to Verizon. One of the key features that was not offered with the Verizon iPhone 4 is multitasking. This means that people cannot surf the web and talk at the same time or use apps while they talk.
But for the most part the Verizon iPhone 4 isn’t all that different from the original iPhone 4 for AT&T. While the prices on the Verizon network are better, those that already own an iPhone will not benefit enough by switching cell phone carriers.
