can you get viruses/trojan horse on an Ipad?
After doing a search on my ipad,I received a virus warning from apple security. It showed that I had 54 viruses…bunch of trojans…so when I followed the instruction to remove it, SAFARI window popped up and said it couldn’t download the software..when I tried to cancel everything, the same thing happened. SO, I ended up just closing that window. Now, everything looks fine but could something be”hiding” and I don’t know what to look for?? Thank you for any help! Also, know that I am NOT that computer savy — please use simple terms : )
Although based on past experiences with Apple products, it is definitely possible for Ipads to get viruses, I’m not aware of any current attacks on the Ipad. If I had to guess, I’d say that it’s merely a website that pretended to be a “virus warning from apple security”. You could imagine that it’s relatively easy to design a website to look however you want, so you could definitely design a website to appear as if it were scanning your computer and finding fake viruses.
Also, as part of the HTTP protocol, web browsers do send their browser and some info about the computer to the server, so web servers do know what kind of machine and browser you’re using (this is how sites like wikipedia know to redirect you to the mobile version when you surf the web on a mobile phone, for instance), so webservers can know that you’re using an apple product (and impersonate Apple, rather than, say, Microsoft).
