Should I get the iPod touch or the iPhone? I’m mainly concerned about the internet/wifi pros and cons.?

Apple just announced the iPod touch 8GB for $299 and the 4GB iPhone also for $299.
My contract with Verizon just expired, and I was thinking about entending my contract with them, until I heard about the price drop on the iPhone, and then I find out about the iPod touch, which is an iPhone without the phone part.
The iPod touch has wifi, which is cool, but the only way I have wireless internet is when I’m in school. Are there any other places where I can get FREE wifi?
The iPhone also has the internet on it, and I’m always connected. I don’t have to go out and find a free place for wifi.
Please help, I’m so confused. What one should I get?
