Verizon iPhone this spring. iPhone 5 this july. what gives?
Okay, so the rumors that the Verizon iPhone will come out sometime this spring don’t make sense to me. Apple always updates the iPhone in July. So, logically, the iPhone 5 will come out next July. So, in theory, Apple would release the Verizon iPhone this spring and that iPhone would be a “4.” So would Verizon have the iPhone 4 or iPhone 5? Maybe a gimmic, the Verizon iPhone 5 exclusive to Verizon 4 months before AT&T!
Or maybe it’ll be a 4 this spring, a 5 this july, and the ATT and Verizon product cycles will simply be different, with ATT getting the next generation phone earlier than Verizon year after year.
I know nobody can answer this, but I’d just like to hear thoughts. Have any?
I think it will be a 4 for verizon. It’s already designed and has the major features. If they release an iPhone 5 for verizon, they would need to have another major software update, which should go out to all iphones. (Every time they release the new iPhone we also get a new version of the IOS) I bet this verizon iphone is set for customers who are just ready to explode over an iPhone so they would be willing to lock them selves into a 2 year commitment and upgrade again in 2 years to the iPhone 6 (or 5 if we get an iPhone 4S, lol)
I bet after this release, Apple will just start having the verizon iphone on the June update schedule that the rest of us are already used to. Since the CDMA chip is different from the current GSM, they are trying to design the verizon iphone in a way so that the interior components don’t need to be drastically changed and rearranged. Maybe it’s just impossible for the CDMA chip to fit exactly where the GSM one fits in the iPhone 4 now; if this is the case, they don’t want to engineer an entirely new iphone that they can only sell to verizon and then remake the iPhone 4 for ATT, especially since they are no longer exclusive to one carrier. It only makes sense to be able to sell their newest product to everyone. This is why I think they might make the interior of the iPhone 4 a little bit different to include a CDMA chip but only sell those units until June when they release their new iphone 5. With the iPhone 5, the chipsets in the CDMA and GSM handsets surely will have identical parts, with a CDMA chip that looks exactly the same as the GSM chip. Not only will this be much easier to manufacture, but more profitable because they only had to design one iPhone that they can sell to the customers of two carriers.
