Ipad for lectures etc?

Now I’m not much a an apple fan, but the ipad just seems so logical for this purpose. I would use it to take down notes in lecture (with a blue-tooth case/keyboard) and utilise the touch screen to input equations and sketches into my notes. I have been using a laptop, but it can be a real pain to do these simple things like show an equation being solved or a simple sketch . I have my old trusted laptop at home for essays etc. Also the benefits of carrying ebooks would be great! Do you think that the ipad would be work well for this?
