My iPod Classic 120GB is simply REFUSING to sync – I’ve tried everything!?
Okay, so I have an iPod Classic 120GB. When plugged into iTunes, it tries to sync, but freezes on like, the 5th song and displays an error along the lines of “Could not sync to the iPod “Tom’s iPod” (-58)”.
If I try to restore it, I get a red cross on the screen when I turn the iPod on. If I restore it a few times, it lets me sync again eventually but freezes again and goes back to the red cross.
I have tried everything that came up on Google when I searched the error, and Apple’s advice is to restore the iPod – which didn’t work! I really need someone to help with this – possibly this happened to you and you’ve fixed yours!
I’m thinking it might be some kind of firmware error, meaning that formatting the iPod might be an idea. However, I am aware that the iPod has hidden partitions and confusing control files, so if anyone knows how to format the iPod properly without breaking it, it would be a great help!

A restore is already doing the reformatting, same thing. If you have any potentially corrupted files in iTunes, you need to get rid of those and then try to sync. You won’t likely still have the same problem. If you do, then your hard drive is failing and you should get help from Apple or, if you bought an extended service plan from a reseller, take it wherever you bought it.
