Can the apple iphone be unlocked to be used with Sprint?
And if it can be done, is it hard to do?
No. The iPhone uses a cell phone communication standard called GSM, which is used by AT&T and T-Mobile in the US (and a number of other carriers worldwide). Sprint uses a standard called CDMA.
Unlocking an iPhone will allow you to do a number of things, including install whatever programs you would like and using it on other GSM carriers around the world, but to change from GSM to CDMA would require a very serious hardware modification (as well as modifications to the software/firmware to make use of the altered hardware).
