Ipod Touch 4g restore problem! Help!!?

I’m having problems with my ipod touch 4g. Yesterday every time I would try to go on facebook, the internet, or on the app store from my ipod it would go on it then blink off then last night it went black and then came back up showing a chord pointing towards itunes and it won’t let me do anything else. So I connected it to my computer and it said I needed to download the new software and then restore it. So I downloaded the software but when I tried to restore it, it says”Ipod could not be restored. Ipod error has occurred [3194] . When I looked up the error code on apple it said it had to do with a fire wall or something like that, but I’ve disconnected all my fire walls and I don’t know what it could be. It still comes up with the same thing. I’ve also tried shutting down my computer and restarting it, and I can do anything with the ipod itself to fix it because I can’t access anything from it. Please help! Thanks!!!

I ran into something very similar with my new iPod touch 4G. When I first connected to my newly installed iTunes, I was told that my touch need to be updated and that failed. Then I tried to restore, and during the last verify part, it failed with error code 8, consistently, early and often.

After a couple of days futzing around with the touch, the computer, and rummaging for info on Apple’s web site and trying many different things … today I went to a friend’s computer to do a restore, which worked – but since it was a new touch and he had his iTunes set to auto sync, suddenly it was his touch name-wise, loaded songs, etc. So I came back to my computer and tried a restore and that failed again. This told me that the touch was okay and my computer wasn’t.

My computer is several years old and a PC running Win XP 3.

During long hours I worked on this, I removed and reloaded iTunes, using IE instead of Chrome as my web browser.
I determined that all the usb ports were USB 2.
I tried to restore the touch using each usb port.
I tried turning off firewall and then restoring.
I tried putting in a whole lot permissibles in my security software.
And a pile of other stuff – I basically worked through the long list of possibilities on Apple’s support web site.

Finally, I decided to completely de-install my security software, which was CA distributed by Time Warner Cable.

Bingo. Restore worked, my iPod was again mine and it seems to be happy.

And I noticed besides CA, I had two of three pieces of Microsoft’s free security stuff up and working (??? how???). I’m sure the two security applications were walking all over each other. So, instead of reinstalling CA, I gave them the boot and went with Microsoft’s entirely.

As a side benefit, I could de-install Chrome, go back to IE and regain a bunch of disk space without sacrificing a lot of speed. (Chrome was fast, but a resource hog and didn’t play well with some sites, such as my bank.)

Whew. Glad that was so easy (not). And I’m a retired geek. What does the average Joe do???

So, put on your thinking cap and try restoring your touch on a friend’s computer – maybe that will tell you something. Or drop in or make an appointment at the Genius bar at an Apple Retail store (which was my next step) – apple.com/retail It doesn’t cost anything.
