If you threaten to leave a cell phone provider, do they offer better deals?
I’m getting a new phone, probably this week, and I’m currently with T-mobile. I recently found out my contract has been up and the Touch Pro 2, my desired phone is a little steep. Do you think if I threaten to leave, they might throw in a better deal on the plan/phone/services? Anyone have any experience with this? With T-mobile USA and this?
Please don’t waste my time with “screw WMo, get an iPhone!!! LOLZ!!!!”; frankly I hate Apple products and am too smart and too knowledgeable about computers to bother with dumbed-down over-protective technology like that. If you don’t like that I just bashed your iMac, go right click something.
But seriously, thoughts on the cell phone stuff?
The Touch Pro 2 is an excellent phone!, I agree. If you have your heart set on that phone, check with HTC and see if they have some type of trade up program that credits you with some type of reimbursement if you trade them your old phone. I know Blackberry RIM does this, but usually is a minimal amount. You could check with other carriers who offer the Touch Pro as well and see about their rates, rebates, etc.
Usually carriers will not discount phones anymore than they already are at the typical 2 year contract price because they are already losing money on the equipment at their listed 2 year contract price and have to keep you as a customer for about 6 months to make up the loss on the phone. It never hurts to ask however.
