is it safe to update my iPhone 3g to 4.2?
I have a 3g running on firmware 3.1.2 and I would like to finally update it but my biggest fear is not being able to unlock it. I am not sure if apple has released any new basebands recently for version 4.2 that will make my life a living hell trying to unlock it. I know after this update it will ask to upgrade to the newest 4.3 but I will just keep it at 4.2 to be safe. Anyone know if it is safe for me to upgrade? I mostly want to upgrade because cydia is always crashing on me and my picture messaging wont even work anymore. I could SSH it and delete cydia and reinstall but id rather just update it. Any help would be appreciated guys! Thanks in advance 
I already know I have to jailbreak it, Unlocking is the only thing im worried about. I use T-Mobile so if i cant unlock I wont have a phone
