Every time Apple comes with something new, a storm is starting in the tech world. Apple iPad made no exception, so everyone is mad about it. First, let’s take a look at what the iPad really is. The Apple iPad is basically a portable entertainment system. It weights about 1.5 pounds, and Apple claims the iPad batter will last for at least 10 hours. Usually, computer manufacturers tend to overrate these measurements, but you can be sure that you will have enough battery to get through a couple of movies before it needs to be recharged.
The iPad should be able to run most of the App Store apps, including the ones that were designed for iPhone. Actually, the iPod interface is similar to the one of the iPhone, hence you will find it easy to use this tool if you are already familiar with Apple recent products. Even if you don’t I am sure you won’t have any problems with the intuitive touch based interface.
Although the iPad is not supposed to replace your work laptop, it actually has an iWork application suite that can be downloaded. It includes Numbers for spreadsheets, Keynote for presentations, and Pages for word processing. Therefore, iPad allows you to do the basic computer work you need to be done. Just as with the iPhone, you will see a screen keyboard that appears every time you need to type some text in. However, the difference is in the size – it is much easier to use the keys on the iPad. The iWork app only cost $10 and can be found in the iTunes App Store.
Now, let’s look at the things that iPad cannot do. I think the only thing that you will miss is the cell phone utility. You can’t make any calls on the iPad, and you need access to a local WiFi network to access the Apple store, where you can download movies, e-books, games and music.
The price is another thing that you might be interested in. The original iPad devices cost $499. Apple informed us that they will release an upgraded version of iPad, 3G-enabled in a few months. This will allow you to access the internet just like a cell phone with a web browser does. The 3G-enabled iPod will cost $629 and also require $29.99 every month for the 3G access.
